Even though you are probably itching to buy yourself some new wheels the second you see your first real paycheck, DON’T buy a new car as soon as you graduate! If you absolutely need to buy a car for yourself, try to get a good used car, nothing you need to get a big loan or lease for. Once you are established and able to pay cash for a car, you can actually use it to your advantage. If you are a business owner or an independent contractor you can get the IRS deducted tax right off for each mile you drive the car related to business purposes. Now, driving back and forth to work doesn’t necessarily count but if you are driving to optometry conferences or utilize your car for other business purposes this could work to your advantage!
