As awareness of dry eye disease grows, clinicians need to understand that there is not simply one treatment that is best for all patients. ODs must develop a comprehensive therapeutic plan that increases the quality and quantity of tears produced to bring about equilibrium of patients’ ocular surfaces needs. It is more important to treat the underlying causes of DED and not just its symptoms.
