Topography is typically used in the care of patients with keratoconus, however, new technology and research illustrate the need to look beyond the shape of the cornea. Optical coherence tomography provides physicians with a noncontact technique to acquire measurements in multiple areas of the cornea. These new technologies may help with early diagnosis of keratoconus and allow physicians to improve patients’ vision and quality of life.
