Though it is important to be cognizant of any condition that causes corneal opacities, one in particular is epidemic keratoconjunctivitis or EKC. Patients with EKC often present with flu-like symptoms. To appropriately diagnose this condition physicians must consider not only these symptoms, but the patient’s history and exam findings as well. After this highly contagious infection is identified, treatment can begin.
