Epidemic keratoconjunctivitis or EKC is a highly contagious condition that must be treated as soon as it is identified. There are currently no FDA-approved treatments specifically for EKC, however, there are alternative topical treatments that have been shown to decrease the viral load of EKC. After physicians manage the infection, a topical corticosteroid can be used to treat inflammation.
